Gerrit focuses on assisting ultra-high net worth individuals in complex international disputes and on multi- jurisdiction litigation as well as arbitration and mutual legal assistance matters. He also structures and negotiates transnational deals and sets up companies and tax structures for the resulting businesses.
His strength is the use and coordination of diverse legal systems, with experience in civil law, common law, and post-soviet jurisdictions. In disputes his biggest successes were in the financial industry as well as matters requiring scientific and technical understanding. He has substantial experience in the oil, gas, and natural resources sector as well as in aviation and shipping.
On the advisory side Gerrit specializes in asset protection with a focus on the protection against commercial and governmental risk as well as tax efficiency.
Gerrit graduated at the Law School of the University of Bern and obtained direct bar admission with the title of Fürsprecher in the canton of Berne (1991). He worked in California under the ABA exchange program and passed the California bar exam in 1996. In 1997 he graduated from Cornell Law School with the title of LL.M. and was admitted to the bar of California. He joined the predecessor firm of today’s Klein Attorneys-at-law in 1992 were he became partner in 1998. He is a founding partner of Klein Attorneys-at-law.
