Marcel is a renowned expert and scholar in Swiss criminal law and can advise and assist in all aspects of criminal law and criminal procedure, international mutual assistance in criminal matters as well as seizure of assets. He joined Klein as Of Counsel in 2015.
Marcel obtained his Master’s degree in 1984, his Doctorate (PhD) in 1992 and his habilitation for criminal law, criminology and philosophy of law in 1998, all from the University of Zurich Law School (Switzerland), where he was also Lecturer in criminal law and legal methodology. In 1995 he became Assistant Professor for criminal law and criminology at the University of Freiburg (Switzerland), and Full Professor for criminal law, criminal procedure, and criminology in 1999. In 2001 he became Full Professor for criminal law, and Philosophy of Law. From 2009 to 2014 he served as the Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Freiburg (Switzerland). From 2012 to 2014 he presided the International Association of German Speaking Criminologists (KrimG).
